A long day that leaves Navarra and enters La Rioja, the most famous wine region in Spain.
Steep descent between Torres del Río and Viana. The route crosses the N-111 several times: take care. The only fountain mentioned is at the entrance to Viana.
Along the way

Torres del Río
Home to the octagonal Church of the Holy Sepulchre, a 12th-century Romanesque gem often linked to the Templars.

Viana
Cesare Borgia, son of Pope Alexander VI and inspiration for Machiavelli's The Prince, died nearby in 1507 and is buried in front of the church of Santa María.

Logroño
Capital of La Rioja. Santiago el Real has a large image of Saint James on horseback, and the pavement outside carries a giant Game of the Goose board. In the evening, Calle Laurel is packed with tapas bars.
