The highest point of the Camino Francés, then a descent of more than 1,000 m that is hard on the knees.

Practical tips

Fog, snow and wind are possible on the high ground in winter. The descent near El Acebo is steep and the ground is stony towards Molinaseca. Molinaseca is a lovely place to stop and shorten the day.

Cruz de Ferro

At about 1,500 m, an iron cross on a tall wooden pole stands on a mound of stones. Pilgrims leave a stone brought from home, symbolising a burden left behind.
