São Pedro de Rates

Its Romanesque church is one of the oldest in Portugal, linked to the legend of Saint Peter of Rates, said to be the first bishop of Braga.

Barcelos

Home of the Barcelos rooster, Portugal's national symbol. Legend tells of a pilgrim wrongly condemned who was saved when a roast cockerel stood up and crowed, a story very like Santo Domingo de la Calzada's.
