Digital Nomad Visa Spain: Requirements and How to Apply
Spain's digital nomad visa lets non-EU remote workers live in the country while working for employers or clients based abroad, and it has become one of the most popular routes for Americans drawn to places like Galicia.
Income requirement
As of 2025-2026 the threshold is pegged to Spain's minimum wage and sits at roughly €2,400-€2,850 a month for the main applicant (about 200% of the SMI), with additional amounts required for each dependent you bring.
Who qualifies
You need to work remotely for a company or clients mostly outside Spain — generally no more than 20% of your income can come from Spanish clients — and show at least three months in your current remote role before applying.
Documents to gather
Proof of remote employment or freelance contracts, recent payslips or bank statements, private health insurance valid in Spain, a clean criminal record certificate, and proof of qualifications or relevant work experience.
How to apply
You can apply from a Spanish consulate in your home country or, if already in Spain legally, from within the country. Processing is often faster from inside Spain, typically a matter of weeks rather than months. The visa is usually granted for one year and renewable, eventually leading toward permanent residency.
